Long-term continuous use of benzodiazepines by older adults in Quebec: prevalence, incidence and risk factors
Article Abstract:
Long-term continuous use of benzodiazepines by older adults has been studied in 1423 community-dwelling subjects Quebec relative to prevalence, incidence and risk factors with the finding that the risk of long-term continuous use seems to increase with age. The association was independent of health status, gender, anxiety, benzodiazepine type, cognitive status and physician characteristics.

Delirium in older emergency department patients discharged home: effect on survival
Article Abstract:
Findings indicate that undetected delirium in elderly patients discharged from emergency departments may be linked to increased mortality up to six months after they were discharged. Implications for improving delirium detection and its relationship to patient outcomes are discussed.

Predictors of five-year mortality in older Canadians: the Canadian Study of Health and Aging
Article Abstract:
The Canadian Study of Health and Aging supported the importance of gender, age, cognition, functional and health status in predicting 5-year mortaility, and after accounting for cognitive and physical status and specific disease variables, the difference in mortality between older people in institutions and in the community is reduced.
