Is serum uric acid level associated with all-cause mortality in high-functioning older persons: MacArthur studies of successful aging?
Article Abstract:
Whether serum uric acid level is or is not associated with all-cause mortality in high-functioning older persons is discussed based on a prospective cohort study involving 80 community-dwelling older people, participants in the MacArthur Studies of Successful Aging. Findings show high serum uric acid level is not independently associated with greater total mortality in high-functioning older men and women. In such studies, the potential confounding effects of underlying inflammation and other risk factors must be considered.

They also investigated whether Prime-MD modifies age-related differences. They recorded information such as Prime-MD use, psychiatric diagnosis, provider intervention. Date from 952 younger adults were analyzed to determine whether there were age-related differences. They found that there was no association between patient age and Prime-MD use.
