Sleep problems as a risk factor for falls in a sample of community-dwelling adults aged 64-99 years
Article Abstract:
Sleep problems are discussed as a risk factor for falls in those aged 64-99, based on a community-dwelling sample studied using random-digit dial telephone survey procedures. Participants were 971 women and 555 men. Support for an independent association between reported sleep problems and falls in an older population was found. Research focused on effectiveness of insomnia treatment in old age should look at outcomes considered atypical.

Benzodiazepines and the risk of falls in nursing home residents
Article Abstract:
Risk of falls in nursing home residents has been studied as it relates to benzodiazepines through use of a historical cohort study involving 2510 residents. Risk in those receiving short-acting benzodiazepines is less than that in those who take long-acting agents, but the drugs are associated with a materially increased risk of falls at night.

Testosterone supplementation therapy for older men: potential benefits and risks
Article Abstract:
Testosterone supplementation therapy for older men cannot be recommended with normal or low-normal testosterone levels and no clinical manifestations of hypogonadism until more good clinical trials are carried out to show good outcomes and several kinds of benefits. Supplementation might be justified in older men with markedly decreasesd testosterone levels, regardless of symptoms, and in men with mildly decreased testosterone levels and hypogonadism indications. Long-term safety and efficacy are uncertain.
