Removing the barriers to effective depression treatment in old age

Doctors must understand the barriers that prevent elderly people with depression from receiving proper treatment. Such barriers include attributing symptoms to the aging process, lack of Medicare coverage for treatments, race, ethnicity, and the way the patient's health care plan is organized.

Out-of-pocket healthcare expenditures of older Americans with depression
Article Abstract:
Older Americans with depression have relatively high out-of-pocket (OOP) expenditures. An estimation, of the mean annual OOP healthcare related expenditures of Americans aged 65 and older with depression, is made and these expenditures are compared to the OOP expenditures of older Americans suffering with other common chronic conditions.
