Agglomeration diseconomies of traffic congestion and agglomeration economies of interaction in the information-oriented city

Article Abstract:

A partial equilibrium model of land, labor and transportation markets in an information-oriented city with agglomeration diseconomies of traffic congestion and agglomeration economies of interaction in the central business district (CBD) is presented. To obtain the equilibria, numerical computations employing specific utility, production and congestion functions are used. At the optimum, it is found that the CBD becomes compact and the city more suburbanized than the laissez-faire equilibrium.

Empirical analysis of office rent and agglomeration economies: a case study of Toronto

Article Abstract:

A study has been conducted to examine the determinants of the location decision for offices in the Toronto metropolitan area using an equilibrium model. The observed and estimated floor rent in each district were determined and analyzed using goodness-of-fit tests. Other factors such as the impacts of new office development and the presence of agglomeration economies within the metropolis were also considered.

Article Abstract:

The endpoint theorem model divides business structure into office and plant. The office is where key decisions and feedback emanate, and the plant is where production occurs. Innovations in telecommunications and the interrelation needs are some of the factors that affect the separate location of offices and plants.
