Canadian R&D abroad management practices
Article Abstract:
Canadian firms' investment in foreign R&D emanate from their desire to expand their markets, as well as from the need to respond to subsidiaries' demands for innovations. Surveys reveal that the usual mode of foreign direct investment is through acquisition of foreign research laboratories. It has also been observed that Canadian R&D activities usually focus on commercial and pre-commercial applied research rather than on basic research.
