The necessity of parental involvement in childrens' Internet use is stressed, protecting childrens' privacy in online marketing directed at them discussed, and guidelines for parents in choosing the right filtering program to protect children from access to harmful Web sites given. Article Abstract:

A Cyberspace Privacy Protection Act is proposed to protect individuals from the broad societal surveillance which the Internet makes possible, and a URL given for the proposed statute. What such a law should contain is listed, including notice, opportunity for prior consent, and remedies for violation of the act.
