Demands and anxiety: the effects of the new immigration law
Article Abstract:
The 104th Congress imposed many restrictions on immigrants, both legal and illegal, with the passage of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act. The Act makes legal immigration more difficult, imposes income requirements on sponsors, limits appellate review of removal orders, imposes penalties for overstays, expands deportable offenses and gives officers at ports of entry final authority to deport people arriving without documentation. The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act has restricted legal immigrants' access to most benefit programs.
