HIV/AIDS education: SIECUS study on HIV/AIDS education for schools find states make progress but work remains
Article Abstract:
Studies conducted among the 50 states together with the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands on HIV/AIDS education for elementary and secondary students reveal that more states implement or strongly encourage HIV/AIDS education. Most states have a training program for educators and a regulatory board to plan and design the education program. The curricula of 34 states were also evaluated based on the Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education, SIECUS, 1991. The state programs were found to have certain inadequacies and further improvements are recommended.

Teaching our teachers to teach: a SIECUS study on training and preparation for HIV/AIDS prevention and sexuality education
Article Abstract:
Sexuality education programs will only be effective if teachers are properly trained. The Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States conducted a study of 169 educational institutions offering teacher certification programs. The study sought to determine if these programs prepare pre-service teachers to teach health education, sex education and HIV/AIDS prevention education, if these courses are compulsory or optional, and if the sex education programs are comprehensive. The results of the study are discussed.

SIECUS Fact Sheet #1 on comprehensive sexuality education
Article Abstract:
A review of researches concerning AIDS awareness among the youth is presented. Results of these studies reveal that a large fraction of the youth sector is infected with the HIV virus. It was also shown that feelings of embarrassment plus inconvenience hinders the use of condoms among teenagers. These problems can be addressed by including condom education in AIDS/HIV curricula and by making condoms more accessible to young people.
