Globalization of industrial R&D: an examination of foreign direct investments in R&D in the United States
Article Abstract:
The internationalization of industrial R&D activities of large businesses has primarily benefited the US. Most foreign R&D investments are directed towards the US. The country is also the most preferred site for establishing foreign R&D facilities. These developments have traditionally been attributed to foreign companies' desire to improve service to US-based customers. However, studies reveal that the prime motivation for such developments is the need to access the country's abundant human and technological resources.
