Laplanche's reconstruction of Freud's other-centered subject: The enigmatic signifier and its political uses
Article Abstract:
Freud's 'exigency and going astray' as defined in the essay of that name by Jean Laplanche are explored by tracing one major going-astray detected by Laplanche in Freud's thinking. It is argued that Laplanche's model of the enigmatic signifier can be extended past childhood as in the case of the US public who continue to accept the US president George W. Bush's misleading rhetoric.
