Article Abstract:
The changes to the landscape of Britain's financial heart, the City of London, from the 1990s to this day, as its leaders and security agents have sought to defend the area from terrorist attack through the construction of what is commonly known as the 'ring of steel', are explored. The unprecedented physical, financial and psychological damage of 9/11 may have a lasting impact on the way major cities are planned, run and function.
