The social shaping of the national science base
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the dependence of technologically dynamic companies on publicly funded academic research and related programs using studies. Bibliometric information was utilized to determine the rate and direction of a nation's research activities. Results indicated that technologically dynamic firms significantly relied on academic research funded with public money. Findings also showed that national societies had a major effect on the level and sectoral pattern of research programs.
