Race, policing, and the future of the criminal law
Article Abstract:
Whites and minorities disagree fundamentally on racial discrimination in policing, and the criminal justice system's pervasive reliance on double standards accounts for the racial divide in opinion. Public officials must make clear that racial profiling is unacceptable, be willing to disclose to the public statistics of their enforcement methods, be more representative of the communities they serve, and the Supreme Court must try to create rules that minimize race and class disparities in criminal justice.
