Russell's power
Article Abstract:
Bertrand Russell's notion of power is inherently contradictory. He combines the different forms power takes with a psychological thesis on political leaders' will to power for dominating people. Of the naked, revolutionary and traditional powers, the last two depend on assent. Abuse of such power can be stopped by spontaneous coordination of dissent. However, such coordination rarely occurs in history, and fails to continue for long even when it occurs. Effort to end US war against Vietnam is explained in this context.
