'Technology transfer' and the research university: a search for the boundaries of university-industry collaboration
Article Abstract:
A 1994 survey of an estimated 1000 US university professors from 115 schools is conducted to assess their stand on technology transfer and university-industry partnership. Results indicate a more positive attitude to the consortium than in the 1980s. Professors also favor academic participation in economic development, commercialization of university research and private consultation. However, they express opposition to privatization of academic research while majority reject collaboration with private firms.
