Article Abstract:
A country's success in transforming its economy from a planned market system is evaluated in terms of the quality of life of the people of that country on the basis of the World Bank's Development Report 1996. The project attempts to squarely and courageously face the problem of urban poverty, a major phenomenon that has emerged in the midst of the process of economic transformation and social restructuring.
