Body image and obesity: Effects of gender and weight on perceptual measures of body image
Article Abstract:
The effects of gender and measures of Body Mass Index on estimates of normal body size (NBS), current body size (CBS), as well as inconsistencies between attainable (ABS) and desirable (LTB) sizes, were assessed. Men and women were shown thin-to-heavy figure silhouette drawings. Discrepancy scores were found to be significantly different for groups of females, but subjects agreed on judging the hypothetical normal male and female figure size.

Attitudes toward bulimic behaviors in two generations: The role of knowledge, body mass, gender, and bulimic symptomatology
Article Abstract:
A study investigated whether those exhibiting more bulimic symptoms estimate bulimic symptoms to be more common or acceptable than those who exhibit few or no symptoms. Some young women may perceive bulimic symptoms to be legitimate in weight loss, and clinicians must assess the eating practice of client who may not see their eating habits as problematic.
