Six principles are listed and defined for effective housing and community development in the US. These are interdependence, comprehensiveness, fair housing and equal opportunity, universally beneficial fiscal policy, community-based solutions, and asset-based solutions.

Increasing the supply of multifamily affordable housing
Article Abstract:
A list is presented of recommendations by the National Housing Conference to increase the availability of affordable housing. These include widening public policy dialogue to target moderate-income families, constructing more Section 8 units, and enhancing financial incentives for investment in affordable housing development.

2001 housing production proposal
Article Abstract:
An examination is presented on changes to housing production goals set by the National Assn of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. Changes include stipulations for a formula-based distribution program for funding totaling $1 bil, of which only 2% would be allotted for administrative use, and increased reliance on local decision-making processes.
