Choosing daughters: Exploring why mothers favor adult daughters over sons
Article Abstract:
Qualitative and quantitative data was used from 424 mothers' relationships with their children to explore gender differences in mothers' choices of children as sources of support and closeness. Due to inconsistent findings, new method was observed that revealed a consistent pattern of preference for daughters over sons as sources of emotional and instrumental support, primarily on the basis of shared values and gender-specific similarities.

Political opportunities and collective identity in Ohio's gay and lesbian movement, 1970 to 2000
Article Abstract:
The manner in which changes in sociopolitical context influence the gendered collective identity and gender composition of the gay and lesbian rights movements overtime, is studied. It is shown that shifts in the sociopolitical context contribute to the literature on gender, sexuality, and social movements by demonstrating that countermovement can mobilize stigma in a way that heightens identity salience and alters collective identities.
