Article Abstract:
This article examines the psychological processes activated by mortality awareness in college students. Findings indicate that the contemplation of morality results in a greater need to defend personal beliefs about the world and reduces accessibility to death-related thoughts due to cognitive dissipation, not suppression.

Effects of self-esteem on vulnerability-denying defensive distortions: further evidence of an anxiety-buffering function of self-esteem
Article Abstract:
A comparative study was conducted to prove that self-esteem served as a shield against anxiety. It was evident that people with high self-esteem accepted that they were vulnerable to early death, but people with a low self-esteem denied their vulnerability.

Combating stereotype threat: The effects of self-affirmation on women's intellectual performance

The study to investigates the effects of self-affirmation on the performance of women under stereotype threat. It is found that self-affirmation improved the performance of women under threat, but it did not affect men's performance.
