Creating good communities and good societies
Article Abstract:
The term 'community' characterises a good society, however, it is argued that the term is ill-defined and is often used in incompatible situations. The term is defined as 'a social entity that has the elements necessary to contain conflict within sustainable boundaries' and is not necessarily territorial. The concept of community is analysed, including an overview of inequality, moral dialogues and bonding.

Creating a caring society
Article Abstract:
It is argued that by raising the value and recognition of caring, the incentive to become involved in caring and the status and rewards of carers would improve, thus developing a more egalitarian, just and kinder society. Care is currently perceived as privatised, feminised and devalued. Suggestions include the establishment of care as a citizen right and a public social responsibility.
