Current heavy drinkers' reasons for considering change: Results from a natural history general population survey
Article Abstract:
Current heavy drinkers were recruited and comparisons were made between those who were considering or not considering change from a general population random-digit dialing telephone survey. Respondents considering change had more severe alcohol problems and perceived more risk associated with their drinking as compared with those not considering change.

Motivation and life events: A prospective natural history pilot study of problem drinkers in the community
Article Abstract:
A prospective natural history study is conducted of problem drinkers who are thinking about quitting or reducing their alcohol consumption. Two primary constructs, cognitive appraisals and life events are measured in a mailed-out baseline survey.

Interest in different forms of self-help in a general population sample of drinkers
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the surveying of 1,557 residents in Ontario, Canada, to determine the level of interest of these individuals in self-help services for drinkers. The prediction of interest in the services is discussed.
