Article Abstract:
Palermo, Italy, politically reinvented itself with local elections in 1993 that clearly severed many ties to Mafia bloodshed and domination. Schools have been crucial to this project, offering new opportunities to develop civic education by encouraging students to accept responsibility for restoration and maintenance of local monuments.
