Ethnicity and the effects of mapping-enhanced drug abuse counseling
Article Abstract:
Examination of the effectiveness of mapping-enhanced drug abuse counseling reveals that this method is more useful in the case of African Americans and Mexican Americans than in whites. The results are encouraging where attendance, rapport, motivation, and self-confidence are concerned. The drug problem among African Americans and Mexican Americans is severe and they have more problems in drug abuse treatment. The visual and verbal interaction in the mapping-enhanced counseling makes it more useful in ethnically diverse groups.

Heavy drinking, alcohol-dependent vs. nondependent methadone-maintenance clients: a follow up study
Article Abstract:
Heavy drinking alcohol and non-alcohol-dependents vary in their responses to methadone-maintenance treatment at the follow up. The dependents display a decreased use of opiate, alcohol-related symptoms, improved peer relations and psychological functioning. Both groups have lesser number of drinking days, amount of drink and percentage that consumes three drinks in an hour, though the frequency is more for the dependent group. Morning drinking is also reported to be significantly lowered in the dependent group.
