How far can family support for the rural elderly go?
Article Abstract:
The authors acknowledge the current limitations of social support for the elderly in China's rural areas, and propose suggestions for broadening and strengthening its presence. These include the adoption of modern operational environments and industries, encouraging familial piety in younger generations, and increasing state assistance.

Article Abstract:
Research indicates that China's elderly population enjoys a high level of independence with respect to self-care, financial support and spiritual life, and therefore does not place as heavy a burden on younger generations for caregiving as popularly believed.
