Male self-employment in four European countries: the relevance of education and experience across industries
Article Abstract:
This article discusses non-agricultural self-employment among men in Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom; specific economic and institutional frameworks are suggested to promote opportunities and incentives for self-employment. Individual resources such as education and experience differ among the four countries and among industrial branches; regulations and general settings in each country and industry provide distinct opportunities for self-employment.

Labor market regulation and the growth of self-employment
Article Abstract:
This article evaluates the impact of labor market regulations on self-employment growth from 1980-1992, in the US. The authors conclude that increased regulations on the labor market have lead to a growth in self-employment.

Self-employment in Italy: does labor market rigidity matter?

The growth of self-employment in Italy cannot be tied to tight labor markets. Those who start businesses in Italy are usually already employed and they are inspired to do so by economic growth.
