Perceiving the powerful: intriguing individuals versus threatening groups
Article Abstract:
The power held by targets in the interpersonal condition leads to the indivudating impression-formation processes, while in the intergroup condition such processes did not result, but rather in-group identification and favoritism, as well as negative affect, apparently an in-group cohesion effect under threat. Results are discussed with regard to the issues of control deprivation, the continuum model of impression formation, and social identity theory.
