Predictors of participation in a smoking cessation intervention group among low-income women
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the predictors of participation in a smoking cessation group in a sample of 50 low-income women. Logistic regression analysis was used to predict group membership with age, self-efficacy, social support, optimism, nicotine dependence and intention-to-quit. Self-efficacy and intention-to-quit smoking were the only two significant predictors of participation in the cessation intervention. With lower the self-efficacy score and higher intention-to-quit score, the likelihood of women participating in group intervention increased.

Motivation for smoking cessation among the Norwegian public
Article Abstract:
A study of a sample of cigarette-smoking Norwegians 19 years and older showed that about one-third were motivated to quit, often wishing that they knew about smoking cessation methods. Interest to quit smoking is associated with the respondents' motivation, recognition of the need to act, high outcome expectancies for quitting and social influence factors. Majority of related studies conducted suggest that motivation is an important predictor for the success of smoking cessation program.
