Reactivity to smoking cues: mediating roles of nicotine dependence and duration of deprivation
Article Abstract:
Nicotine-dependent individuals have a high reactivity to smoking cues during long deprivation periods. Individuals with enhanced deprivation exhibit a higher psychophysiological reactivity to smoking stimuli. A heart rate evaluation shows that the time period of smoking deprivation and nicotine dependence are directly related. The smoking desire, physical withdrawal symptoms, and negative affects are interrelated during smoking stimuli.

Compulsive behavior in tobacco users
Article Abstract:
The study demonstrates the greater intensity of compulsive behaviors in tobacco users compared to non-users. The results are consistent with tobacco use as a form of self-medicating compulsive symptoms, likely through monoamine modulation of orbitofrontal-subcortical circuits.
