Reasons for the referent: reducing direction of comparison effects
Article Abstract:
Results of two feature-matching studies reveal that requesting participants to write down reasons about options before making preference judgments minimized direction-of-comparison effects. The studies indicate that, without analyzing reasons, people tend to prefer the subject of comparison when two options possess unique positive features and prefer the referent when two options possess unique negative features. However, they become less prone to make these preferences when they analyze their reasons.

Is person categorization modulated by exemplar typicality?
Article Abstract:
The issue of exemplar typicality is examined to the extent to which categorical information is extracted from the faces in which the features of two racial categories (Asian and Caucasian) are blended to various degrees. The results revealed that participants are indeed sensitive to variations in exemplar typicality even when their attention is not explicitly directed to the critical triggering stimuli.

Direction of comparison in typicality judgments
Article Abstract:
This article explores comparing groups regarding typicality. The authors examine the judgement of college students who were asked to compare two group members who were rated as sharing typical features and conclude that when group members had atypical features the participants rated the target comparison as more atypical than the referent, suggesting stereotypical behavior.
