Redefining social work's emphasis on the 'social': the path to development
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the nature, the values and the relevance of social work in South Africa reveals that it aims to help individuals to deal with social problems and is concerned about social changes and reforms in the society. Social work and social welfare are similar as both are concerned about the availability of social resources to the society. Self-help and mutual aid literature of these programs advocate methods for individuals and small groups to cope with their problems and emphasize on the use of informal systems and empowerment strategies to aid social workers create a system of sharing responsibility.

Outcome measures in social work education in the United States: a national survey
Article Abstract:
A study conducted to analyze the tools for the assessment of social work education that conformed to the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) revealed that 63% of the respondents had developed outcome measurement instruments of their own and 46% of the 63% had conducted follow-up studies. Baseline data about the present level of efforts in the development of instruments designed to measure outcomes were also provided. Program structure, size and accreditation status of new standards of CSWE were statistically unrelated to development of outcome measurement instrument.

Partnerships in international social development: evolution in practice and concept
Article Abstract:
Links should be developed between popular sector groups and organizations of the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Southern experiences in tackling poverty can be used to address the situation in the Northern countries. International networking among popular organizations can enhance mutual aid. Non-governmental agencies can help in the search for alternatives.
