Discrimination constrained and justified: variable effects of group variability and in-group identification

The status of a social group influences behavior and social perception. This study indicates that variability of status, group homogeneity, and actual status differences between groups influence the social identity of group members and their tendency to favor the in-group.

Crossed categorization and intergroup bias: the moderating roles of intergroup and affective context
Article Abstract:
Cross-categorization occurs when individuals are evaluated based on their membership in multiple social groups. This study indicates that although people positively perceive others from the same social categories, supportive feedback on evaluations and positive affect reduces the intergroup bias.
