Demographic consequences of ethnic and regional conflicts in the CIS
Article Abstract:
Ethnic and regional conflicts in the post-Soviet Union have greatly affected the ethnic population. Chechnya and Tajikistan have have suffered the greatest population losses, in which approximately 100,000 people have been killed, while displacement of certain ethnic groups is also shifting the demography of post-Soviet regions.

Regional power in Russia: paradoxes of its formation
Article Abstract:
This article examines the growing power structures in the various regions of Russia. The authors maintain that due to the disintegration of the Soviet Union the regions of Russia have become more powerful, economically independent, with regional elites strengthening their political hold.
