Sociospatial differentiation: Processes and spaces in subdistricts of Shanghai
Article Abstract:
A conceptual framework concerning the processes of sociospatial differentiations is developed and the major outcomes of differentiation are highlighted. The processes include the revealing of historical legacies of inequalities that existed prior to the socialist city and the inequalities forged under socialism, fragmentation of the structure of housing provision, the market economy of urban development, globalization, economic restructuring and rural-urban migration.

The structure of social space in Beijing in 1998: A socialist city in transition
Article Abstract:
Data from a 1998 survey and the other sources in Beijing at the subdistrict level are used to find that differentiations of social areas were taking place in Beijing after over a decade of urban reforms. Factor analysis revealed four factors that underlay the social-spatial structure in Beijing.
