'The company of neighbours': building social support through the use of ethnography
Article Abstract:
The ethnographic approach to community intervention involves action research based on the realignment of social work to suit local perceptions of community development. Reconfigured community social work combined with local dialogue focuses on community strengths to facilitate local social changes. Building social support networks through community narratives helps social workers in responding readily to local issues. The reconfigured cycle of experience-learning-theorizing presents a viable ethnographic model for social workers to initiate community development.
