The continuing drama of the forcibly displaced peoples in the Great Lakes Region of Africa
Article Abstract:
The special assembly of bishops of the Symposium of the Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar has issued a document attesting to the ongoing fratricidal war in Burundi and Rwanda, in particular, and the social and political tragedies of the Great Lakes Region, in general. The crisis include ethnocentrism, prejudice and stereotyping, colonialism, support of nations for warring groups, vendetta, poverty and the denial of the rights of others. Thus, the bishops of the Great Lakes are appealing for a more effective network of pastoral care for these displaced people.
