The many faces of public housing: At Your Service
Article Abstract:
The National Association of Housing & Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) 2005 Awards of Excellence are given to housers who work diligently to educate, entertain and care for their number one priority, namely their people. One such recipient is the At Your Service program, a joint effort of Rhode IslandEs Warwick Housing Authority (WHA) and the Warwick Interfaith Association for Affordable Assisted Living (WIAAAL), which offers elderly residents services such as snow removal, assistance carrying groceries, and housecleaning, for little or no charge.

Public housing residents would seek better-paying jobs if not penalized by higher rents
Article Abstract:
A 2005 report by the Manpower Demonstration Research Corporation reveals that residents of local housing agencies would probably seek out jobs that paid better if they were not penalized with higher rents. Higher rents, together with tax consequences, decreased the residents' income gains, diminishing the incentive to pursue a higher income, if not any job.

Public housing residents win national awards
Article Abstract:
Five assisted housing residents are stepping up from public assistance to run their own businesses, expand, or improve operations. They are all recipients of the Financial Assistance for Resident Entrepreneurs awards, administered by NAHRO, which provides 5,000 dollars awards.
