The Mu Shu Dragon in Walt Disney Co.'s 'Mulan' is a male protagonist whose constant presence challenges the attempt to portray a woman warrior defying social expectations. 'Mulan' is successful because it includes a character firmly rooted in Chinese culture while being visually impressive and highly entertaining.

The animated motion picture 'Mulan' is a pleasant experience despite its lack of commercial success in China. This is a Chinese subject told with Hollywood style, portraying a woman who uses her intelligence to overcome cultural barriers, and as such is not objectionable.
