Unit price and choice in a token-reinforcement context
Article Abstract:
Unit price and choice in relation to token-reinforcement was determined by subjecting pigeons to multiple and concurrent second-order schedules of token reinforcement, where stimulus lights were used as token reinforcers. Tokens were produced and exchanged for food according to various fixed-ratios schedules, yielding equal and unequal unit prices.

Second-order schedules of token reinforcement with pigeons: effects of fixed- and variable-ratio exchange schedules
Article Abstract:
Pigeons' key peck response rates have been higher in variable-ratio exchange schedules when compared with fixed-ratio exchange schedules. Local rates of response increased as proximity to food increased under higher fixed-ratio schedules, suggesting tokens had discriminative control.

Effects of primary reinforcement on pigeons' initial-link responding under a concurrent-chains schedule with nondifferential terminal links
Article Abstract:
Primary reinforcement has a clear effect on initial-link response in concurrent-chains schedules. Choice proportions by 12 pigeons were shown to favor initial-link stimulus correlated with the larger reinforcer.
