When stereotype activation results in (counter) stereotypical judgments: priming stereotype-relevant traits and exemplars
Article Abstract:
Stereotype activation is found to generate stereotypical and counterstereotypical target judgements. Incidental exposure to stereotype-relevant information is also found to affect assessment of targets that differ in their social category. These types of judgment, whether driven by interpretation or comparison processes, are determined by two factors, including distinctness and prime-target similarity. Along this line, trait information derived from an specific individual for comparison has contrasting effects and assimilating effects when derived generally as a group.

Understanding stereotype lift: On the role of the social self
Article Abstract:
The activation of non-targets' social self in stereotype-relevant testing situations is examined. The results have shown that the test diagnosticity manipulation is enough to cause stereotype threat because targets require less pushing to activate their social self and the associated negative stereotype in diagnostic testing situations.
