A fishing trip to California's Upper Sacramento River in Northern California is described. This area of California is very different from it's southern neighborhood of Disneyland and lattes. The 14,162-foot Mount Shasta is one of the area's symbols, along with the great river.

A little help: asking for a hand is harder than accepting one

A man recalls a fishing experience that happened to him when he was 12 years old. He went fishing with a friend and his daughter, and did not want any help when he landed a fish, but his friend helped him anyway. He appreciated the help when he was much older.

A man recalls his boyhood days of fishing on a river that then seemed wild and mysterious. The river today is clean, organized and crowded. The man still has a favorite quiet spot upstream that he visited as a child.
