A systematic review on use of a handheld indirect calorimeter to assess energy needs in adults and children
Article Abstract:
The validity and reliability of a handheld indirect calorimeter (the "Gem") in determining daily energy needs in adults and children are evaluated through comparative and reference studies. Results show that the Gem is a valid and reliable device for energy assessment in children and adults.

Validation of a new handheld device for measuring resting metabolic rate and oxygen consumption in children
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to assess the validity and reliability of the MedGem device to measure resting metabolic rate (RMR) in children. The subjects are given four RMR tests during one test session, consisting of two Douglas bag and two MedGem tests in random counterbalanced order.

Effect of protein ingestion on energy expenditure and substrate utilization after exercise in middle-aged women
Article Abstract:
The effect of resistance exercise (RE) and postexercise protein on recovery energy expenditure and substrate utilization in women is evaluated. It is concluded that postexercise protein does not affect energy expenditure.
