There are several options for preparing meals on the trail available for hikers with no cooking skills. One is to pack cold foods that require no preparation. Another is to purchase military Meals, Ready-to-Eat. Grocery stores sell instant oatmeal and other just-add-boiling-water options. Three easy recipes are included.

Roasted seaweed wrapping, called nori, can be filled with rice and other foods for a nutritious trail snack. The rice can be cooked ahead or at the campsite. A recipe for sushi-nori rice is given, and several fillings are recommended.
