O'Brien is favored to become 'The World's Greatest Athlete' by winning the decathlon at the 1992 Summer Olympics. O'Brien has had to overcome immaturity and a heavy drinking problem during his training for the Olympics. He has participated in eight major decathlons, winning five of them.

Balancing act
Article Abstract:
The women's 5000- and 10,000-meter races were won by Lynn Jennings and Kate Fonshell respectively. Mary Slaney, however, proved to be one of the biggest surprises at the Trials when she finished second to Jennings in the 5000, thus earning her a spot on the US Olympic team.
