There are so many excellent deer cartridges on the market than no particular one is recommended. Standard-issue bullets perform so well that premium bullets are only needed for big, tough game. Bullet penetration was deemed more important than expansion. Tips for testing ammunition are included.

Some bullets do not perform well because the manufacturers test them in ballistic gelatin, which does not simulate the bones and muscles of animals. Nosler Ballistic Tip and Sierra Pro Hunter are among the most accurate bullets for big-game hunting.
