An introduction to the sport commitment model
Article Abstract:
The Sport Commitment Model emphasizes the role of enjoyment, involvement alternatives, personal investments, social constraints and involvement opportunities in determining a person's commitment to a sport. Constitutive definitions of these factors were given and were used to design a questionnaire. This was tested on a population of girls and boys from a Little League program. Statistical analysis of the test results confirmed the reliability of the items. It was also shown that sport enjoyment and personal commitment were the most important factors for the sample group.

A test of the sport commitment model using structural equation modeling
Article Abstract:
Results of a structural equation modeling analysis of the sport commitment model, which suggests that commitment is influenced by sport enjoyment, involvement alternatives, personal investments, social constraints, and involvement opportunities, contradicted prior hypotheses. It showed a negative relation between commitment and social constraints, but confirmed the remaining assumptions. Trained doctors administered questionnaires to 875 male and 467 female athletes concerned with sports such as football, soccer, and volleyball.
