Automobile racing is one sport that allows successful drivers a chance to extend their careers over as many as four decades. Richard Petty retired at the age of 55, Harry Gant is still active and winning at age 52 and 56-year-old Eddie Hill is the oldest man to win a major race.

There is an increasing number of sons, and even daughters, of automobile racing drivers following in their fathers' footsteps. This seems surprising since there are many safer ways to make a living, but the success rate of the second generation drivers is even more surprising.
