Bicycle motocross (BMX) could be a training ground for future US mountain bike racers. The number of participants in the sport could yield some candidates for mountain biking competitions. However, BMX appears to be attracting more cyclists than mountain biking.

The annual Tanqueray American Aids Ride fund-raising event in California provides both a celebration of life and a way to pay tribute to the dead. Most of its participants both gay and straight have lost a loved one to AIDS.
