Biofeedback and relaxation techniques improve running economy in sub-elite long distance runners
Article Abstract:
Biofeedback and relaxation may improve running performance in long-distance runners as measured by lower submaximal oxygen (VO 2submax) consumption. Measurements before and after a six-week training indicate that heart rate, VO 2, and ventilation at lactate threshold were lower after using relaxation techniques. Runners also learned to respond to biofeedback data while running on a treadmill at 70% of their capacity.

Allergic rhinitis and pharmacological management in elite athletes
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess the frequency of allergic rhinitis and the use of antiallergic medication within the subgroups of elite athletes as compared with a representative sample of young adults of the same age. The results concluded that endurance athletes have physician-diagnosed allergic rhinitis, and they use antiallergic medication more often than athletes in other events or control subjects.

Effects of erythropoietin administration in training athletes and possible indirect detection in doping control
Article Abstract:
Recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEpo) use is detectable in blood. Athletes received injections of rHuEpo and were examined 25 days afterwards. Significantly altered levels of reticulocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit and other values in the context of rHUEpo intake suggest the possibility of detecting substance abuse.
